Artist Statement
I have been enthralled with the animal kingdom since I was a child. I love animals and I try to lead a life centered on helping them. I have been researching the use of animals in the present world. Animals in laboratories, food production, clothing, fur, entertainment and as companions. I am exploring the publics and my own current thinking on the use of animals in society.
I believe the value in art comes from the artist's ability to share with the viewer. Through my art, I will be creating a space for dialogue and through this dialogue create a space for solutions to the challenges facing the animals of the world today. My art is my way of getting to know animals on a deeper level and passing that experience on to the viewer. I put down what I see and how I feel. I use different techniques and mediums to accomplish this. Drawing, printmaking, painting, photography and sculpture are some but I do not limit myself. Art is a place for me to practice my courage and the strength of my convictions. I believe self-esteem is the opposite of - What will the neighbours think? I accept that I do my art for myself and that not everyone will approve or appreciate it and that is perfectly okay.
I am a proud Canadian. I was born in Newmarket, Ontario and raised on a farm. I have spent many years on the prairies and I moved to Victoria, B.C. in 1996. I have a happy home life with Dale and our pets Basil and Bob.
Sincerely, Judy.

"If you talk to animals they will talk to you and you will know each other. If you do not talk to them, you will not know them, and what you do not know, you will fear. What one fears one destroys."
